EDUCATIONAL MANAGEMENT OF INTERDISCIPLINARY SKILLS IN HIGHER MUSIC EDUCATION IN CHINA
Abstract
Over the last few years, interdisciplinary skills development has gained increasing focus in higher education as institutions react to more and more complicated social and professional requirements. In the case of higher music education though, interdisciplinary learning is still limited by entrenched discipline based systems and management approaches. This paper looks at the issue of interdisciplinary skills development in higher music education in China through the prism of educational management. The study investigates the way institutional governance, curriculum coordination, and organizational support mechanisms influence the conditions of interdisciplinary learning through a conceptual analysis and literature review. It is argued in the paper that interdisciplinary skills development in music education must be viewed not only as a pedagogical problem but also as a process related to management, which is affected by the decision-making of an institution. This research will help to inform the existing debates on the interdisciplinary education in higher music education in China by clarifying the role of educational management.
