Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed educational systems worldwide, particularly in the field of teacher education. Teacher preparation programs must adapt to equip future teachers with the competencies required to design effective learning experiences in data-driven and technology-enhanced environments. This study aims to (1) examine digital innovation models suitable for transforming teacher education in the AI era and (2) analyze strategic approaches for applying AI-driven innovations to enhance teacher professional competencies. A mixed methods research design was employed. Quantitative data were collected from 120 teacher educators, mentor teachers, and school administrators using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire, while qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews with 10 experts in education and educational technology. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation, whereas qualitative data were analyzed using content and thematic analysis. The findings revealed five key digital innovations: AI-based learning analytics, intelligent tutoring systems, immersive AR/VR learning environments, classroom automation technologies, and personalized teacher development platforms. The results also indicated that AI literacy had a strong positive correlation with teachers’ ability to implement AI effectively in instructional practices. The study concludes that systematic integration of AI and digital literacy into teacher education programs is essential for enhancing teacher competencies and ensuring sustainable educational development in the AI-driven future.
